Transportation and Communications Minister Nikolai Rudkovsky said that setting up a universal service fund in Ukraine is one of the priorities for the country’s telecommunications sector. The Ukrainian parliament has been considering the idea of a universal service fund for the last year. The fund would make telecom services available in remote areas using revenue from a 2% mark-up to all telecom tariffs. Experts estimate the fund could accumulate US$ 100 - 110 million a year. Mobile tariffs are already marked up 7.5% in Ukraine to generate revenue for the country’s pension fund. Source: Prime-Tass - WDR/Intelecon Regulatory News. |
