Brazil's communications ministry is conducting a public consultation process concering the use of the telecommunications technology fund Funttel to finance WiMax projects.
The ministry’s objective is to find ways to fund and develop projects that would help spread internet access, especially in areas where it is not currently commercially available. The public consultation started on February 1. Comments can be submitted until early March. The ministry will hold a public meeting in March to discuss the use of Funttel and decide how much funding for WiMax projects would come from Funttel. The money for the projects would come from Brazil's development bank BNDES and the federal studies and projects financing agency Finep and flow through Funttel.
