Argentina’s telecommunications regulator CNC has received close to ninety requests from operators seeking to provide telecommunications services in remote areas.
All of the operator requests are based on the use of fixed wireless CDMA 450. SeCom, the telecommunications ministry, is attempting to encourage the implementation of new technologies such as CDMA 450 for fixed line services. Large providers such as Telefónica Argentina and Telecom Argentina have tested CDMA 450. However, the projects submitted to CNC / SeCom were proposed by small operators and cooperatives. The areas covered by the proposals include El Calafate in Santa Cruz province, the city of Merlo in San Luis province, the city of Azul in Buenos Aires province and areas in the provinces of Chubut, Córdoba, Santa Fé, Neuquén and Entre Ríos.
