DIRSI, a WDR partner in Latin America and the Caribbean, is collaborating with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to conduct a Review of ICT-enabled Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The overall focus for the review will be development-centred and pro-poor. This focus will be present in the data collected for the country reports and highlighted in the country analyses and the thematic articles. For example, country data will highlight data about ICT use in delivery of social services, education and health while thematic articles will explore one or more development theme in depth.
The output of this ambitious project will include:
- Country profiles for 19 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) and from the CARICOM region (Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. Associate CARICOM members are: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands), including sectoral analysis in the areas of education, health and government, which will be specified at the beginning of the research project.
- A summary publication (15 pages with an attractive design) targeted at decision makers in both the ICT and broader development communities.
- A series of specialized booklets on themes such as health care, education, delivery of social welfare programmes, etc. These booklets will tie the LAC Review of ICT enabled Development with existing and or new capacity building and advocacy initiatives.
- A website which will offer full access to the report and to additional data sources. This will also be targeted at a broad audience. Existing websites from DIRSI, ECLAC and UNDP can be used to mirror the resource site. The option of creating a specific standalone website will also be evaluated.
The 200+ page main publication will be launched at Global Knowledge 3, the 3rd worldwide event of the Global Knowledge Partnership, in December 2007. |
