Liberia: Telecommunications Regulatory Body Approved Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 August 2006

Liberia’s Senate has confirmed the Chair and the Board of Commissioners of the newly established Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA).

LTA Chair, Saah Adulai Vandi and two board members were nominated to the Liberian Senate by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. By the confirmation, the regulatory role once played by the Postal Affairs Ministry has ended.

Addressing a news conference at the headquarters of the LTA, the new executives noted that the body would promote efficient and reliable services, relying as much as possible on competition and private sector investment. They said that the establishment of the commission would enhance "appropriate and innovative information and communications technologies" to meet the needs and aspirations of the Liberian people. In addition, the LTA will focus on promoting efficient interconnection arrangements.
