Surfing a new research theme or trying to stay up-to-date on some aspect of ICT policy and regulation… The ITU Strategy and Policy Unit' Newslog might help with news related to SPU research and analysis

URL: http://www.itu.int/osg/spu/newslog/

Evaluation: This is a comprehensive and up-to-date blog – with a bit of everything, but still focussed. New research, conference announcements, their own ITU reports and snapshots of new data, etc., are posted on a very regular basis.

The blog is organised around 44 themes that slice up the entries by region, regulatory issue, or kind of news item (such as conferences or country case studies). These sort of help to narrow down the amount of content presented. But, for example, international conferences are classified under all world regions. Thus, clicking on the Americas link doesn’t narrow down the selection of resources all that much.

When looking for a particular topic, generally, it is more useful to use the internal search engine provided. Although basic and with no advanced search features, it does let you search phrases (using quotation marks – such as “Latin America”). This turns up items with the search string actually in the content.

Ultimately, however, the usefulness of this blog site is not its archives, but its news function of announcing what has just been published and what is being planned.

Monitoring: daily/weekly. New items get posted on regular basis.

Additional information: The site has RSS feeds and Trackback functions.
