The government of Cambodia awarded SLD Telecom, whose shareholders include SK Telecom and LG Electronics, a license to operate a CDMA network.
Under the terms of the license, SK Telecom will build and operate the network. The license is nationwide for 35 years using spectrum in the 800 MHz band. By the middle of 2006, SLD Telecom hopes to have built its network in the main cities, starting with Phnom Penh, and would like to launch commercial services during the second half of 2006. SK Telecom will operate the network and LG Electronics will supply the main network components. SK Telecom will use the same CDMA2000 1X equipment in Cambodia as it is using in Vietnam. This could offer opportunities for telecommunications linkages between Cambodia and Vietnam, the company said. Last August, SLD Telecom also obtained approval for a CDMA network in Vietnam. The company plans to launch service there during the second half of this year. Source: digitalmediaasia.com - WDR/Intelecon Regulatory News |
