Nepal Telecom to improve GSM coverage Print E-mail
Monday, 20 February 2006
Nepal Telecom (NT) has revealed plans to expand coverage of its GSM mobile service to 24 rural regions, with the support of a domestic satellite trunk (DSAT) link.

The USD3 million project will connect people in 24 remote parts of the country by September 2006. NT’s decision to use satellite technology is a departure from its usual practice of utilising terrestrial links such as fibre-optic or microwave links to provide support for its mobile networks. The telco has not revealed exactly how many new mobile lines will be deployed, but says supply will be able to meet demand.
