Afghanistan: Government announces telecommunications incentives Print E-mail
Friday, 22 July 2005
Afghanistan’s government has introduced incentives for private investors to extend telecommunications networks to remote areas and small towns.

Communications Minister Amirzai Sangin said that the government would offer free operating licenses and would waive fees for one year for businesses involved in extending the telecommunications network. The move is part of a government attempt to connect every village, town and district. The minister previously stated that the sector required investors with at least US$ 1.0 million in capital who would guarantee the extension of the network to at least 50,000 additional people.
