| Ukraine: President appoints telecommunications regulator |

President Viktor Yushchenko appointed Oleh Hayduk to head up the National Commission for Regulating Communications.
Hayduk was appointed by a decree signed according to the procedure set out in Article 20 of the law "On Telecommunications", the presidential press service said. Seven commissioners have also been appointed. On 9 December 2004, President Leonid Kuchma dismissed Hayduk from the post of deputy minister of economics and European integration. Hayduk tendered his resignation on 25 November, following the second round of the presidential election. Hayduk has considerable experience with government bodies and in the telecommunications sector. In 2000, he became the national communications operator Ukrtelekom's deputy director-general in charge of new technology and supplies. In 2001-03, he chaired the board of Ukrtelekom.
