Colombia: Government reducing telecom charges Print E-mail
Tuesday, 09 November 2004

According to a report by Business News Americas, Colombia's communications ministry and CRT – the telecommunications regulator – intend to cut both access and connectivity charges, the communications minister Martha Pinto said.

The government will attempt to stimulate supply and demand in order to increase broadband penetration. Increasing connectivity is a necessary step to enable the implementation of the "government online" e-government program and to get Colombia’s public institutions interconnected.

The strategy of increasing the supply of telecommunications services and adding potentially valuable online content in the form of the government online initiative could prove to be an effective strategy to increase the uptake of ICTs in Colombia.
