Nigeria: NCC Approves PHS License Print E-mail
Thursday, 25 November 2004

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has granted a license to the Jigawa State Broadband Access Company, to operate its Personal Handyphone System (PHS) telephone.

Governor Saminu Turaki made the announcement when he signed into law a bill for the privatisation and commercialisation of Galaxy Communication and Information Limited, the company responsible for operating the state's broadband facilities and its PHS operation. Already, NCC has allocated the numbers to be used by PHS subscribers and service is expected to launch soon.

Interconnectivity between PHS and NITEL is being worked on by the state government and NITEL. Some government officials are expected to test the system before making the network available for public use.
