According to a Prime-Tass report, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) for the Novosibirsk Region concluded that regional operator Sibirtelecom violated anti-monopoly law when it dramatically increased tariffs it charges other operators for E-1 ports. In May, Sibirtelecom increased tariffs on E-1 ports by 150 - 400%, which created a significant burden on the profit margins of Internet access and IP telephony services offered by alternative operators, several of which initiated the case with the FAS. Sibirtelecom did not provide an adequate justification for the tariff increase, an official with the FAS said. The FAS conducted its own study, which concluded that Sibirtelecom did not have sufficient grounds for the tariff hike. Details of the regulator’s decision and supporting rationale will be published on October 14. Intelecon Research & Consultancy Ltd. 12/10/2004 |
