A week after launching its network in Benin, Glo Mobile has won a GSM license in Ghana. In a June 12 letter to the management of Glo Mobile Ghana, Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA), said its Board of Directors had declared Glo Mobile Ghana the winner of the international competition for a GSM license. The NCA said that Glo Mobile won both the technical and commercial parts of the competition. Glo Mobile's management promised to "roll out aggressively" in the country "very shortly". Glo began operation with a GPRS network in Nigeria in August 2003. Glo Mobile now has over 18 million subscribers. The operator is also building Glo 1, Africa's first private submarine optic fibre cable that will run from Lagos, Nigeria through 15 African countries to Portugal, England and the U.S. Source: This Day - WDR/Intelecon Regulatory News. |
