CICT Conference on Mobile Media Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 June 2007
CICTThe Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CICT) will hold its forth international conference in December 2007, on Development of Mobile Media: Technological, economic and regulatory issues. The aim of this conference is to discuss the drivers and barriers for the further development of mobile media platforms, services and applications, identify the challenges of future development, and present successful implementations of applications and services.

Development of Mobile Media:
Technological, economic and regulatory policy issues

Date: 29-30 November 2007
Venue: Oticon salen, Technical University of Denmark, Building 101, in Lyngby, Denmark
Conference website: http://conf2007.cict.dtu.dk

The convergence of broadband, digital broadcast and beyond 3G mobile services have caused a paradigm shift from traditional scheduled push broadcast media to a pull choice of multiple segmented channels, increasing amounts of user generated content and personalized anywhere anytime on-demand access to media.

From a technological point of view, the obvious challenges of the future will be the development of: a) network infrastructures which enable seamless mobility, b) service architectures which enable context aware personalisation, c) content generation and delivery systems with advanced mechanisms for the description and indexing of content, and d) applications and services which enable user interaction and efficient access to media content, including self-generated content.

Challenges from a market/economic perspective are mainly related to the convergence between the broadcasting/media and telecommunication sectors, development of optimal business models, and the demand side perspectives, including user needs, willingness to pay, etc. The regulatory and policy challenges are partly due to the convergence process with questions on how broadcasting/media will be regulated in the converged broadcast and communication platforms, the role of Public Service Media, including the funding issues, and the challenges related to efficient allocation and management of the spectrum resources.

The committee welcomes contributions on:

  • New services and content
  • Service architecture
  • Seamless mobility
  • Personalisation
  • Metadata
  • Interaction design and User interfaces
  • Wireless IPTV
  • Market development and business modelling
  • Techno-economics of mobile media infrastructures/platforms
  • Demand side perspectives & User studies
  • Spectrum allocation and management issues
  • Other regulatory and Policy issues

A selection of the conference papers will be published in an international journal.
