World Dialogue on Regulation

WDR/LIRNE.NET members Prof. Robin Mansell (London School of Economics) and Prof. William Melody (Managing Director of LIRNE.NET and WDR) gave a course on E-Commerce for Developing Countries: Assessing the Models and the Experience on 19 May 2005 at the World Bank.

A key priority for the DIRSI network is to promote research among young academics interested in regulatory challenges posed by the development of information and knowledge societies among the region's poor and marginalised communities and citizens. To this end, DIRSI is holding its second research grant competition directed at young researchers (under 35 years of age) for the execution of projects falling within the scope of the DIRSI research agenda.

Olga Cavalli has been named as Executive Coordinator of the Regional Dialogue on the Information Society (DIRSI), a WDR partner in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The first publication of the Regional Dialogue on Information Society (DIRSI – Diálogo regional sobre la sociedad de la información – www.dirsi.net), Digital Poverty: Latin American and Caribbean Perspectives (La Pobreza Digital: Perspectivas de América Latina y el Caribe) is now available for download in Spanish and English. The DIRSI research network is a WDR partner in Latin America and the Caribbean. The book is edited by Hernan Galperin and Judith Mariscal.

From March 7-9 LIRNE.NET and WDR held an expert meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay to discuss recently completed research with sector representatives, to share findings and methodologies across regions, and to prepare the next WDR/LIRNE research and dialogue cycle. The meeting brought together some fifty experts, including researchers from the LIRNE centres in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, other researchers, and representatives from the regulatory community, the private sector and civil society from sixteen countries and all continents (participant list).
